DESCRIPTION
- Overview of Organization and Services:
The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) is a public transportation service. The MVRTA serves the northeast corner of Massachusetts with over 1 million miles of city, suburban, interurban, and rural scheduled bus routes. MVRTA's Fixed Route bus service area includes Andover, Amesbury, Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport, North Andover, and Salisbury. The Authority also provides service to the Lowell Transit Center for connections with the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA).

Operates Monday through Saturday. There is no Sunday service and no service on holidays. Fixed route adult and child (ages 6-12) fares. Charlie Card users receive a discount over cash payments. Children under 5 ride free. Monthly passes offer a reduced fare and can be purchased at the bus station at 12 Washington Square in Haverhill from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Discounts for students, elderly and disabled. Also offering a Boston commuter bus.
MVRTA Office of Special Services provides Ring and Ride (shared ride) services for people living in specific areas, including Boxford, Georgetown, Groveland, Newbury and West Newbury, as well as other routes. Advance phone request required. Also providing Medi-Ride transportation service for certain customers living in the Greater Haverhill area to travel to the Lahey Clinic in Peabody/hospitals in Boston for access to medical appointments. Minimum 1-2 days advance reservation required. See website for eligibility requirements, specific areas of service and fees.
