DESCRIPTION
- Overview of Organization and Services:
Merrohawke Nature School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to guiding learning in nature that inspires empathy, resilience, grit, and a deep connection to the earth.
We work 100% outdoors because we believe this is the best classroom for personal growth, and it just so happens that through direct experience on land and at sea, youth develop a profound love and respect for nature that will stay with them throughout their lives.
- Additional Info:
Our name, Merrohawke, is inspired by the Merrimack River, which is the heartbeat of all that we do. The Agawam, some historians believed, referred to the river as "merroh awke," meaning "strong place."
We believe time in nature makes kids stronger, and we believe the Merrimack River gives exceptional character to our community. In honor of our growth and the river's resilience, endurance and strength, in spring 2014 we changed our name from BOAT CAMP Nature School to Merrohawke Nature School. We carry the spirit of the river with us always.
