DESCRIPTION
- Overview of Organization and Services:
The Massachusetts Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program provides nutrition, health education and other services free of charge to Massachusetts families who qualify. Pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who meet certain requirements are eligible. These requirements include income eligibility and state residency. Additionally, the applicant must be individually determined to be at “nutrition risk” by a health professional or a trained health official. Grandparents caring for grandchildren under age of five can also obtain these benefits.
These services include:
Personalized nutrition consultations
Free healthy food - participants receive: milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, beans, cereal, whole grains, choice of fresh/frozen/canned fruits & vegetables and infant formula if needed.
Referrals for medical and dental care, health insurance, child care, housing and fuel assistance, and other services that can benefit the whole family.
Immunization screenings and referrals, breastfeeding support, nutrition and health workshops on a variety of topics including meal planning, maintaining a healthy weight, picky eaters, caring for a new baby, and shopping on a budget.
The WIC Program collaborates with the U.S. Department of Food and Agriculture to provide WIC participants with coupons, redeemable at Farmers’ Markets, for fresh fruits and vegetables during the summer months.

During COVID-19, All WIC appointments are being handled by phone. Participants who currently have scheduled appointments to not come into the office, but stay at home and wait for someone to call them with further instructions on how we will be able to help them obtain benefits. New applicants, and those who need to schedule an appointment, should not walk in, but call us and we will call them back. New applicants can also apply online at www.mass.gov/WIC.
